POSITION OVERVIEW College Bound Dorchesters Alternative Middle School provides an alternative academic setting for high risk middle school students who have not been successful in regular classroom settings. This mission of College Bound Dorchester is to equip Dorchester students with the attitude, skills, and experience to graduate from college. Under the supervision of the program director, the teacher will provide daily classroom instruction within frameworks of an interdisciplinary, thematic curriculum model with an emphasis on team teaching methodologies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Writing and implementing individualized lessons that integrate subject matter, skills area, learning styles and activities in all middle school subjects. Maintain good communication and relationships with families that support student success, including regular home visits, meetings and progress reviews. Contribute expertise, ideas, and academic goals to creating interdisciplinary themes. Document academic, social, and emotional performance through assessment, observation and portfolio. Participate in daily traditional and non-traditional assessment of students and program with a team of teachers. Demonstrate a proactive commitment to fostering sound moral and character development with our student population. Value cultural diversity. Set high expectations for self and all students. Implement safety, respect and citizenship guidelines as outlined in the Student and Parent Handbook consistently, and model and encourage mutually respectful classroom and societal behaviors. Establish a safe and positive classroom environment. Comply with all City, State and Federal regulations and licensing requirements including 766, CORI and others as necessary. Additional Qualifications: Demonstrated success as an educator; experience working with an urban population and/or alternative education programs preferred; Exemplary written and verbal communication skills ; STRONG classroom management skills Highly organized, flexible and motivated, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; Ability to work cross functionally with a diverse staff and to support a diverse population of students; Commitment to the mission and vision of College Bound Dorchester and the potential of young people participating in the Alternative Education programs to graduate from college; Proficient in MS Office Applications including Word, Excel, Power Point and the Internet Possess a valid Mass.
