School: Various Campus Locations Hourly Rate of Pay: $34.02 per hour Application Due Date: March 17, 2010 5:00 PM Position Start Date: June 3, 2010 through July 2, 2010 Reports To: ELA Academy Site Leader Job Description: The ELA Summer Academy Master teachers will teach appropriate grade level standards based curriculum in English Language Development, Literacy, and Mathematics. In addition, the ELA Summer Academy Master teacher actively participates in the professional development of new teachers to the Denver Public Schools by modeling daily lessons, making planning and decision making transparent and debriefing the teaching experience. The debriefing will focus on aspects of lesson planning and delivery, instructional moves, student engagement, classroom management, language development, and assessment among others. The ELA Summer Academy 2010: The Academy will run for teachers from June 3rd to July 2nd 2010. Students will arrive to the classroom on June 8. There will be two paid professional development days for teachers on Jun 3rd and 4th, and a paid preparation day on June 7th. The ELA Academy day starts a 8:00 AM ends at 12:00 PM. Required Skills: • To be support the language development of all students through high quality instruction and the effective implementation the Literacy/ELD and Mathematics curriculum of the ELA Summer Academy. • Ability to work with a diverse student population and staff. • Mentor/Cooperating Teacher experience, or worked with adult learners in teacher education, or to have worked in the roll of Instructional Coaching. • Excitement and positive disposition about apprenticing the next generation of teachers in the Denver Public Schools. Qualifications: • Current Colorado Department of Education Teachers License with endorsement in Elementary Education and passing score on the PLACE or Praxis II in elementary education or HOUSSE qualified in Elementary Education, • DPS ELA Qualified, or ESL, or Linguistically Diverse, or Bilingual endorsements • Principal recommendation Screening Process: The screening process for ELA Master Teachers will consist of three different steps 1) Submit your Application with current resume with a cover letter Resume Teachers applying to the ELA Summer Academy submit their resume with the ELA Summer Academy Job Application through the Human Resources Ceridian web site. Helpful information points to include in your resume are: • Current school in DPS and ELA assignment, if applicable • Education and ELA qualifications and endorsements • Honors received • Teaching experience • Teaching experience serving ELLs • Teacher mentor experience or supervising teacher experience Cover Letter: Please write a cover letter containing the following information: • Demonstrated successful experiences with ELLs • Demonstrated experience of positive mentorship of teachers or teacher candidates (Student teachers) • Narrative explaining why you want to work in the ELA Summer Academy 2) Principal recommendation: Upon submission of your application and your resume with a cover letter, contact your principal and request to a recommendation. Your principal already has a link to the ELA Summer Academy Recommendation Survey. Your principal will fill the recommendation using the link mentioned above and the ELA Department will receive the recommendation directly. 3) After the completion of steps 1 and 2, a selection committee will review the resume and cover letters, the applications, and the principal recommendations to select the top candidates in our district. During the application process, teachers will have the opportunity to select their three top campuses in the ELA Summer Academy. We will make all possible efforts to honor your campus choices but there might be cases where the assigned campus is out of the list you provide.
