SUMMARY

The Senior Computer Technician serves as a lead technical expert within the Information Technology department. This role is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and deployment of computer systems and related technology across district sites. The Senior Technician also provides mentoring, participates in planning and implementation of district-wide IT initiatives, and ensures adherence to industry best practices and security protocols.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform complex troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of computer systems, peripherals, and related hardware.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for computer technicians and provide mentorship and guidance.
  • Lead and participate in the installation and configuration of computer workstations and network hardware at school sites and administrative facilities.
  • Coordinate and execute technology rollouts, upgrades, and relocations.
  • Maintain and enforce IT equipment standards, inventory control, and documentation procedures.
  • Work closely with the Network and Systems teams to assist in district-wide network infrastructure upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to service requests via phone, ticketing system, and in-person support.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware, tools, and process improvements to enhance IT service delivery.
  • Maintain organized and safe workspaces, including repair labs and storage areas.
  • Collaborate with school staff and departments to assess needs and provide technical support in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Ensure all technical work aligns with district policies, industry standards, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Services Manager or Director of Information Technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty independently and with a high degree of expertise. The following qualifications are required:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Two-year college degree or vocational school training in a professional, specialized or general field with professional certification; three to five years job-related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write grammatically correct reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees using good grammar.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
