Special Education Inclusion Paraprofessional

Job Description

Primary Purpose

Provide instructional and behavioral support to students receiving special education services in general education (inclusion) and special education settings. The paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of a certified teacher and supports the implementation of students' IEPs to ensure access to instruction, appropriate accommodations, and a safe, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or GED required

Experience

  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
  • Experience in a school or classroom setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of special education inclusion practices
  • Ability to follow IEPs, behavior plans, and teacher direction with fidelity
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, service providers, and administrators
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policy
  • Ability to manage student behavior using positive and proactive strategies

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Student Support

  • Provide instructional support to assigned students in general education classrooms
  • Assist students with academic tasks, organization, and engagement during instruction
  • Support implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications as directed by the teacher
  • Assist students with transitions, routines, and classroom expectations
  • Provide behavioral support in accordance with Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) when applicable

Classroom & Instructional Support

  • Work under the supervision of the general education and/or special education teacher
  • Support small-group or individual instruction as directed
  • Assist with classroom management strategies to promote a positive learning environment
  • Collect observational or progress data as directed by the teacher

Compliance & Professional Responsibilities

  • Use paraprofessional time exclusively for supporting students as determined by IEPs and campus schedules
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information
  • Follow district policies, campus procedures, and ethical standards
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of paraprofessional responsibilities

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
  • Ability to assist students physically when necessary
  • Ability to lift or assist with lifting heavy load
