Position: Providence Assistant (Floater)

Job Description

Scope

The floater/support staff's primary duties are to support students with Down syndrome and collaborate with teachers (classroom and Providence) and the Providence Director to strengthen classroom support for teachers to improve training, effectiveness, and retention of assistants, while also preserving teachers' time for direct instruction and intervention with students.

Qualifications

The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:

  • A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
  • A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
  • Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of Christian Academy
  • Agreement and belief that The Bible is the authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind

The ideal candidate shall provide/successfully complete the following:

  • Previous professional experience with special needs children preferred
  • Copy of High School diploma or transcript of highest degree earned
  • CPR & First Aid Training
  • Must be 18 years of age

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Assess assistant training needs in collaboration with teachers and Providence Director
  • Provide ongoing support, in-class coaching, data collection, and feedback based on the identified needs
  • Model evidence-based instructional and behavioral support strategies for assistants
  • Support classroom and lunch coverage as needed to ensure uninterrupted instruction and professional learning
  • Create and implement a structured coaching plan aligned with student needs and staff development goals
  • Assistant will assure each child is treated with love and value and taught that God made him/her special

  • Increased student independence as well-trained assistants effectively scaffold learning and promote engagement

Reporting Relationship

  • The Providence Assistant Floater is responsible to the Providence Director and school principals.
