The Akron Board of Education announces opportunities for as needed Sustitute Tutor assigned to Project Rise, Job Code 040, Time Schedule - as and when needed. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position. The hours assigned to this position may vary based on shelter program needs and individual scheduling availability. In addition, the hours for this position are funded through an external source and availablity of hours will be contingent on funding.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Individuals assigned to this position are responsible for providing academic services (tutoring, homework assistance, etc.) outside the regular school day during late afternoon/evening hours. The position requires services to be offered in local area shelters and other community-based organizations. Scheduling and assignments will be made through Project Rise. Individuals will be responsible for their own transportation to/from assigned locations.

QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED:

Valid Substitute Teaching License

DESIRED

1-2 years' experience working with school-aged students in academic programs;

The ability and desire to connect with families who are in crisis;

The ability to work well with others;

The ability to work with diverse age groups and populations;

Effective, active listening skills;

Organizational skills;

Good problem-solving skills;

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
