Description:

RSU 73 is looking for two caring, compassionate, and patient special education teachers to work with students in grades 6-8 and 9-12 who require specially designed instruction for academic and functional skills.

A successful candidate will be able to:

• Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), to align with a students academic, functional and social-emotional needs as well as the ability to coordinate the delivery of special education services in each students IEP, complete special education paperwork and adhere to timelines.
• Evaluate and determine your students learning capacity and adapt lesson plans accordingly
• Effectively communicate with parents, counselors and other teachers to discuss the students progress and continued needs
• Hold a capacity to provide proactive behavior interventions for students with significant emotional / behavior, academic and social concerns
• Provide research based specialized instruction to address the instructional, functional, and developmental goals and objectives contained within each students IEP.
• Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
• Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities

Qualifications:

1. Maine Department of Education Certification (282 Endorsement)
2. Maine State Law requires all school employees to be fingerprinted and pass a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) for a Department of Education
3. Experience working with students with challenging emotional / behavioral needs and at risk students with academic, social and behavioral concerns preferred.
