GENERAL SUMMARY

Provide instructional leadership and support to ensure strong Tier 1 core instruction and implementation of the adopted English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum with fidelity. This position focuses on job-embedded coaching, collaboration with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and professional development to support consistent, standards-aligned instruction across classrooms.

The TOSA will support alignment across ELA, science, and social studies, including integrated and outdoor learning opportunities, while promoting inclusive practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This work is grounded in educational equity and the Marzano Instructional Framework.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the supervision of the Building Principal, the position performs some or all of the following typical duties:

  • Support implementation of district-adopted ELA curriculum with fidelity, ensuring access for all learners through inclusive practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Provide non-evaluative classroom observations, coaching, and modeling aligned to Tier 1 instruction and the Marzano Framework.
  • Collaborate with PLC teams to analyze student data, identify priority standards, and plan targeted, standards-aligned instruction.
  • Co-design and facilitate professional development with PLC leads, administration, and curriculum specialists.
  • Support in-class Tier 2A practices, including differentiation, scaffolding, and inclusive instructional strategies within the core instructional block.
  • Identify and support prioritization of essential standards in ELA, science, and social studies.
  • Assist teachers in aligning ELA materials with science and social studies standards to maximize instructional coherence.
  • Support development of integrated units and lessons that connect literacy with science, social studies, outdoor learning, and accessible instructional design.
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials and develop tools to support effective teacher planning and instruction.
  • Support implementation of outdoor and place-based learning opportunities aligned to academic standards.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and administrators to support school and district goals.
  • Participate in staff and PLC meetings.
  • Fulfill other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to and receives direction from the Building Principal or Assistant Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement required.
  • Successful elementary (K-5) teaching experience required.
  • Experience in literacy instruction and curriculum implementation preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of high leverage Tier 1 instruction, structured literacy, standards-based instructional practices, and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Understanding of inclusive practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and familiarity with the Marzano Instructional Framework.
  • Ability to analyze student data and support data-informed instructional decisions within an MTSS framework.
  • Ability to facilitate adult learning, coaching conversations, and collaborative planning.
  • Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and community members in an amiable and productive manner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
