Job Title:Special Education Teacher Assistant - BilingualReports To:Building PrincipalClassification:Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant)Wage/Hour Status:Non-exemptDays:188Salary:See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 202Contract:NoneDate Revised:11/15/2023Primary Purpose:Assist Speech Language Pathologists when working with Spanish speaking students and/or parents in the provision of speech language therapy activities.Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment.
  • Educational Aide Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Bilingual - fluent and literate in Spanish and English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Background related to working with children and parents.
  • Ability to work and communicate with children and adults effectively.

Major Duties and

Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:

  • Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.
  • Assist in record keeping and clerical duties.
  • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.

Student Management:

  • Facilitate communication between SLP and bilingual students in the provision of speech language therapy.

Other:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Act as interpreter as needed.
  • Travel to site(s) as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Supervisory

Responsibilities:NoneEquipment Used:Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer and various office equipment.Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:

  • Repetitive hand motions.
  • Prolonged use of the computer.
  • Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
  • Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
  • May require occasional extended hours.
