Title of Position: Special Education Teacher / Avon Online Teacher

Primary Job Functions: This position is equally responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and ensuring compliance with special education regulations. The teacher will plan, guide, and evaluate student learning while also managing IEP implementation, documentation, and collaboration in accordance with Article 7 requirements.

This role is split equally between supporting Avon High School students in an in-person setting (50%) and Avon Online students in a virtual instructional setting (50%). This position is fully in-person, and all responsibilities are performed on-site.

Salary Lane: Range $54,000 - $98,400

FLSA Status: Exempt

Assigned Workday Calendar: 185 Days

Job Status: Full Time

Schedule: Monday Friday

Benefits:

Teaching positions are eligible for medical and dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Provided long-term disability, TRF, 401(a) Retirement.

Paid Time Off Benefits: 9 sick days/4 personal days

Holiday Pay: Not Eligible

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree

  • Certification:?Valid Indiana Special Education Certification required

  • Experience: None required

  • Other: Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate standards-aligned instruction for both in-person and virtual learners

  • Use data to differentiate instruction and support student achievement

  • Develop objective-based lesson plans aligned to state standards

  • Design and implement formative assessments to monitor progress and inform instruction

  • Deliver clear, accurate, and well-organized instruction with appropriate adaptations

  • Engage students using a variety of instructional strategies and learning modalities (in-person and virtual)

  • Use multiple methods to assess and check for student understanding

  • Promote higher-level thinking through rigorous and engaging instruction

  • Maximize instructional time and maintain organized learning environments

  • Create a culture of respect, safety, and collaboration across both learning environments

  • Maintain high expectations for academic achievement for all students

  • Provide direct services to students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) across both instructional settings

  • Serve as a consultant and resource for staff supporting assigned students

  • Participate in case conference committee meetings and evaluations

  • Develop measurable IEP goals, benchmarks, and objectives

  • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and provide regular progress reports

  • Implement and monitor accommodations for classroom and statewide assessments

  • Ensure delivery of all supplementary aids, services, and supports as outlined in IEPs

  • Maintain accurate and compliant records in accordance with Article 7, district policy, and timelines

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, administration, and support staff

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to support student success

  • Participate in professional development and collaborative learning opportunities

  • Seek and apply feedback to improve instructional practices

  • Demonstrate professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational ability

  • Model positive behavior and demonstrate care and respect for all students

  • Perform other duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear.? The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.? The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.? Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
