Job Description
SPECIAL EDUCATION LEAD TEACHER
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold valid Teaching Certificate in Special Education
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred)
Five or more years of successful teaching experience in Special Education
Written and oral communication skills required
Experience working in a collaborative environment
Ability to travel between school sites
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Possesses an in-depth understanding of IDEA regulations and Georgia Special Education Rules
Proficient in record keeping
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to facilitate meetings
Ability to develop and maintain a schedule
Ability to maintain professional standards
DESCRITPTION OF DUTIES:
Coordinate the special education records of transfer students.
Facilitate the collection of various information requests from BOE to include data for DOE reporting.
Facilitate the scheduling of new students according to their IEP.
Attend monthly meeting and disseminate information and materials to special education staff.
Serve as consultant for IDEA compliance issues at assigned schools.
Coordinate and supervise the ordering and spending of instructional funds.
Designate Eligibility Designee, FBA Facilitator, FTE Designee, LEA, & AT Team Members.
Organize the process for transferring special education records between schools/BOE.
Provide professional learning support to general education/special education teachers.
Facilitate mentor assignments of new special education staff on instructional, procedural, and compliance items.
Complete and provide monthly reports to BOE.
Facilitate the assignment of compliant caseloads.
Facilitate the monitoring of the Special Education inventory in special education classrooms and maintain inventory information for the BOE.
Monitor the discipline of students with disabilities.
Collaborate with school administration regarding testing accommodations students with disabilities for local and statewide-required assessments.
Coordinate special needs transportation requests and communicate concerns/needs with the IDEA Coordinator.
Coordinate Senate Bill 10 Public School Choice transfers.
Coordinate the expenditure of local school special education funds at the building level.
Serve as consultant to regular education teachers, including addressing overall concerns regarding special education at their school.
Secure records at the end of the year and disperse to teachers when school begins.
Ensure records review process is implemented.
Collaborate with administration with scheduling to ensure all special education services are accounted for.
Coordinate transition meetings and meetings for placement changes.
May assist in staffing and personnel assignments and recruitment.
Conduct monthly department meetings.
Liaison between parents and administrators.
Consult for behavior support/discipline.
Collaborate with administration regarding discipline for students with disabilities.
Coordinate the processing and collection of SSI paperwork.
