Job Summary: The Learning Support Teacher provides specialized instruction and academic support to students with disabilities in order to promote academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and independence within the school environment. The position is responsible for developing and implementing individualized instructional programs aligned with students IEPs, utilizing evidence-based practices, and collaborating with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure student success and inclusion. The Learning Support Teacher monitors student progress implements accommodations and behavioral supports, and maintains compliant documentation in accordance with federal, state, and district requirements. Additionally, the position fosters a structured and inclusive learning environment that supports the diverse academic, behavioral, and social needs of students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized instructional programs aligned with students IEPs, curriculum standards, and academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals.
- Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, learning strategies, study skills, organization, and social-emotional development.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and interventions to support students with diverse learning needs and disabilities.
- Differentiate instruction, assignments, assessments, and classroom supports to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
- Support students in accessing the general education curriculum through accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, and specialized instruction.
- Assess student progress through ongoing data collection, progress monitoring, formative and summative assessments, and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Develop, implement, and monitor positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies to promote student success.
- Create and maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and academic achievement.
- Support the development of communication, self-advocacy, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Teach and reinforce social-emotional skills, self-regulation, organization, and appropriate behavior across educational settings.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, school counselors, psychologists, and administrators to support student achievement and inclusion.
- Support students in achieving IEP goals, transition objectives, and increased independence in academic and school settings.
- Provide opportunities for inclusion and participation in general education classes and school activities when appropriate.
- Assist students with transition planning and preparation for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living as appropriate.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, staff, and administrators regarding student progress, programming, and support needs.
- Maintain accurate and compliant documentation, including IEPs, progress monitoring data, behavior records, and attendance records.
- Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, professional development activities, and school-based initiatives.
- Train, support, and collaborate with paraprofessionals and support staff in implementing instructional accommodations and behavioral strategies.
- Support extracurricular activities, intervention programs, and school initiatives as assigned.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Pennsylvania Department of Education certification in Special Education PK-12, Special Education PK-8, or Special Education 7-12 required
- Submission of pre-employment medical examination
- Submission of the following clearances:
- Pennsylvania State Criminal History Record
- Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse History Clearances
- Federal Background Check (Fingerprints)
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
