There is an open position in the Georgetown Public Schools.POSITION: Teacher, Special Education LOCATION: Georgetown Middle SchoolSUPERVISOR: PrincipalANNUAL SALARY: Salary and benefits per Georgetown Education Association contract.START DATE: August 31, 2026WORK YEAR: 184 days, the school year & professional development daysJOB DESCRIPTIONThe individual hired for this position will enjoy working in an elementary school environment, show a positive attitude, and be flexible to lend a hand where needed. This is an exciting opportunity to assist in developing a program to support students with social/emotional and behavioral challenges. The successful candidate will have knowledge of trauma informed practices and effective interpersonal and communication skills. Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education Participates in the development of and oversees implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education Supervises and supports paraprofessionals as they implement instruction Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom. Establishes, evaluates and maintains data on students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program. Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members to determine solutions. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Experience working with children with special needs in a public school setting preferred Experience administering standardized assessments, developing reports, and writing individual educational plans Knowledgeable about specialized instruction approaches to address academic deficits and behavioral challenges CPI certified or willing to be trained Knowledge of and ability to execute behavior plans Able to collect data and formulate action plans Effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skillsThis individual will work under the general supervision of the director of student services, building principal, and/or another designated administrator. IDEAL CANDIDATE:The ideal candidate should:Be energetic, motivated individual to work with collaboratively with the grade level team members.Have a strong background in the content area and be familiar with responsive classroom strategies.Be passionate and enthusiastic educator who can motivate students to discover their creative potential.QUALIFICATIONSImplements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special educationKnowledge of best practices regarding elementary school education and the elementary school model.Knowledge of Esped and IEP writing, preferred.Professional understanding of individual student learning styles.Ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues.Ability to manage crisis situations in a public school setting.Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are a must.JOB REQUIREMENTSBachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred.MA DESE certification as a Special Education Teacher (K-6 level).SALARY & BENEFITSPer agreement between the Georgetown School Committee and Georgetown Education Association.Eligible for health insuranceContractual sick days and personal days
