Position: Teacher Assistant, Special Education

Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking compassionate and dedicated ABA Tutors to join the Integrated Learning Center (ILC) Achieve Program. The ILC is a specialized educational program that supports students requiring individualized instruction and services to access their educational environment successfully.

ABA Tutors work under the supervision of the ILC Special Education Teacher and in collaboration with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and related service providers. Tutors provide direct support to students while promoting communication, social, academic, behavioral, and independent living skills through evidence-based practices grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

The Achieve Program serves students with a range of learning and developmental needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities. Students may require individualized support with communication, social interaction, academics, behavior regulation, daily living skills, and safety awareness.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement individualized educational and behavioral programs under the direction of the classroom teacher and BCBA
  • Provide direct instruction using evidence-based ABA strategies
  • Support communication development through a variety of communication systems
  • Collect and maintain student progress data
  • Assist students during academic instruction, social activities, community-based learning, and daily living routines
  • Implement behavior support plans, communication plans, and safety plans
  • Promote student independence through structured support and skill-building
  • Support inclusion opportunities and participation in school-wide activities
  • Collaborate with teachers, BCBAs, therapists, and related service providers
  • Assist with classroom organization and instructional materials
  • Maintain confidentiality and a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Professional Development

The ILC Program is committed to ongoing staff training and professional growth. ABA Tutors receive:

  • Weekly staff training and coaching
  • Training in ABA principles and instructional strategies
  • Student-specific training on communication, behavior, and learning needs
  • Training on behavior support plans, communication systems, safety procedures, and daily living skills instruction
  • Ongoing consultation from the BCBA, classroom teacher, and related service providers

The ILC Program prioritizes relationships, communication, safety, dignity, and student-centered support in all aspects of training and practice.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.
  • Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced Degree: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • DESE Licensure: Not required; paraprofessional certification preferred
  • SEI Endorsement: Not required

Work Schedule and Compensation:

  • Hours: 30.08 per week
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45am-2:30pm
  • Wednesday: 7:30am-1:35pm
  • Salary: $25.63-$33.89 an hour
