Position Overview
Overton Independent School District is seeking a dedicated and student-focused MS / Secondary Science Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year at Overton High School. This position will support science instruction at the secondary level, likely including Middle School Science and Integrated Physics & Chemistry (IPC) courses, helping students develop scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, and real-world understanding through engaging, standards-based instruction.
This position may also include athletic coaching responsibilities , depending on applicant experience and district needs.

Instructional Focus
Instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Science.
Emphasis on:
- Scientific inquiry and hands-on learning

- Laboratory experiences and real-world applications
- Data analysis, scientific reasoning, and communication
- Building student engagement through relevant, interactive instruction
Teachers collaborate closely with instructional staff and campus leadership to support student success and maintain consistent instructional practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Science (Grades 7–12 or appropriate certification)
- Ability to teach secondary science courses, including Middle School Science and/or IPC
Preferred
- Experience teaching secondary science courses
- Experience supporting diverse learners and differentiated instruction
- Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and campus leadership
- Commitment to building positive relationships with students and families
- Coaching experience and willingness to support extracurricular programs
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned science instruction aligned to TEKS
- Foster student curiosity, scientific thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Utilize laboratory activities, demonstrations, and hands-on learning experiences when appropriate
- Use student performance data to guide instruction and support intervention
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional staff, and campus leadership
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with students and families
- Support a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment
- Contribute to the positive culture of the campus and district
- Support assigned extracurricular and/or coaching responsibilities, if applicable
