The Head Start Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a high-quality early childhood education program that supports the cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development of preschool-aged children. This role creates a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment aligned with Head Start Performance Standards and Texas child care regulations.
The teacher works closely with families, support staff, and community partners to promote school readiness and family engagement while ensuring the developmental needs of each child are met.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and classroom activities.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
Support children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.
Conduct ongoing child observations, assessments, and developmental screenings.
Maintain accurate student records and documentation.
Collaborate with parents and guardians to support family engagement and student success.
Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and health/safety regulations.
Manage classroom behavior using positive guidance techniques.
Coordinate with disabilities, mental health, nutrition, and family support staff.
Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and training sessions.
Supervise classroom assistants, aides, or volunteers as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
CDA (Child Development Associate) credential or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
Experience working with preschool-aged children in a classroom setting.
Knowledge of child development principles and early learning standards.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Ability to pass background checks and meet state licensing requirements.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Experience with Head Start or federally funded early childhood programs.
Familiarity with trauma-informed care and inclusive classroom practices.
