This is a full-time 10-month position.

Position Overview

It is important for our future that young students become prepared to understand and evaluate emerging technologies and to use the knowledge and methods of science effectively and ethically. The pure and applied science program at Holton-Arms seeks to teach basic scientific principles, skills, and habits of critical and analytical thinking through strong foundations of learning in the biological, physical, and environmental sciences. Concepts in these disciplines and skills in collection and analysis of data are distributed throughout the middle school curriculum. Students in upper school progress through physics, chemistry and biology, with the opportunity to pursue these disciplines at advanced levels by their senior year. We also offer students the opportunity to explore problem solving through applications in forensics, engineering, robotics, computer programming, and our Science Research Program.

Key Responsibilities

Teach four sections of middle school science (grades 7 and 8)

Work closely and collaboratively with teachers on the Middle School team

Be supportive of teachers throughout the science department, division colleagues, and administrators

Communicate regularly and effectively with students and parents

Provide extra support to students outside of class time, as needed, during the school day

Serve as an advisor, facilitating weekly meetings to promote student well-being

Attend regular meetings, including in-house professional development

Participate in supervisory and extracurricular duties, including chaperoning events, monitoring study halls and common areas, and parent events

Contribute to the Middle School community through advisory, leading clubs, coaching teams, or other student programming

Qualifications and Experience

Three to five years of relevant teaching experience and curriculum development

A Bachelor's degree or higher in a field of science or science education

Passion for teaching science and teaching Middle School girls

Experience with lab equipment and activities-based curricula

Effective communication with various constituents including parents

Commitment to creating a student-centered, project-based, and competency-driven classroom

Interest in curriculum development that promotes inclusivity for all

Proficiency with technology and digital platforms for teaching

Commitment to continued professional learning

Experience leading an advisory group

Salary & Benefits

The average salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000, the exact salary to be determined based on education and experience. We use a step scale to determine teacher salary. Additional stipends are available for coaching, certain club sponsorship, and significant commitments outside of the classroom. Benefits include health insurance with a generous employer contribution to medical, dental, and vision; life and disability insurance; 403b retirement savings with an employer match and non-elective contribution; employee assistance program, tuition remission for eligible children; professional development opportunities; paid parental leave after one year of employment; paid sick and personal days; and lunch is provided on school days.
