GRADE LEVEL(S): Grades 7-8

POSITION OVERVIEW
Morehouse Parish School District seeks a passionate and student-centered Middle School ELA Teacher to support student achievement at Bastrop High School, a Title I campus committed to equity and academic growth. The ideal candidate will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned literacy instruction, foster critical thinking and communication skills, and create a supportive learning environment that meets the needs of diverse learners.

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
Employment Type : Full-Time 9-Month Contract
Salary : In accordance with the MPSD Teacher Pay Scale and applicable state guidelines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver standards-aligned instruction based on Louisiana Student Standards for ELA
  • Implement evidence-based literacy practices in reading, writing, and language development
  • Use assessment data to guide instruction and monitor progress
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment aligned with PBIS expectations
  • Integrate technology to enhance instruction
  • Collaborate through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (FERPA, IDEA, Section 504)
  • Engage families to support student success

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in ELA (Grades 6–12 or applicable) or eligibility through an LDOE-approved pathway
  • Knowledge of Louisiana Student Standards for ELA
  • Demonstrated skills in classroom management, differentiated instruction, and data-driven teaching
  • Understanding of FERPA, IDEA, and Section 504 compliance
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and student data systems
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to equity and professional growth
  • Candidates enrolled in an approved Teacher Preparation Program must provide proof of enrollment, completed coursework, and official Praxis scores (if applicable)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in ELA or education
  • 1–3 years of teaching experience at the middle or high school level
  • Experience in a Title I school setting
  • Knowledge of Louisiana accountability systems and curriculum resources
  • Experience with MTSS/RTI and data analysis
  • Strong background in literacy instruction
  • Experience supporting diverse learners
  • Participation in PLCs or collaborative teams
