Basic Functions:
The Monticello ABC Pre-K Center Paraprofessional shall contribute toward the achievement of students
served by the Center, by assisting teachers with lessons and activities. Desired qualities of a
Paraprofessional include: motivational, fun, helpful, reliable, flexible, positive, and interested in working
with preschool children, encouraging and patient.
Must be able to demonstrate competency in the areas of developmentally appropriate programming,
curriculum development and daily classroom management.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Assists students as directed by classroom teacher, for the purpose of helping children learn.
Participates in professional development training throughout the year to be knowledgeable of
preschool learning goals and instruction methods.
Must complete a minimum of 30 hours of professional development in Early Childhood
Education annually. Some training will occur after hours and on weekends. Must be willing to
attend after hour and weekend training according to requested / required trainings for ABC, DHS
and Early Childhood.
Must obtain / maintain a Traveling Arkansas Professional Pathways (TAPP) account / Arkansas
Professional Development Registry Account.
Interacts with parents/primary caregivers of students.
Collaborates with school staff, therapists, parents, and a variety of community resource personnel
for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student achievements.
Facilitates preschool students’ learning through art, science, music, story time, housekeeping, and
movement activities, to name a few.
Models conversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening skills, etc. for the purpose of
demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments such as the classroom, playground,
field trips, nap times, etc for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Work closely with classroom teacher to create weekly lesson plans according to the curriculum
used; monitor and assess student achievement and collaborate with classroom teacher to enhance
teaching and learning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement:
Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or Associate’s Degree
