JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Teacher-Preschool
REPORTS TO: School Principal and Executive Director of Exceptional Education Services
JOB GOAL: To implement an effective Preschool Program for Students (ages 3, 4, 5) with disabilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Alabama teacher's certificate with endorsement in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education
Experience in the development of Preschool Programs for students with disabilities
Experience in full range of disabilities/severity levels
Knowledge of Preschool assessment procedures, intervention strategies, and parent education procedures
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
Knowledge of assistive technology devices for students with special needs
Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
Cooperates with other professionals (occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech pathologists, psychometrist/preschool service providers, kindergarten teachers, etc.) to coordinate services for students
Assists with coordination of the District process for the identification and referral of pre-school children with disabilities
Trains and supervises teacher assistants for preschool students with disabilities
Assesses student needs and develops an individual education program (IEP) for students with disabilities; monitors and updates IEP plans as needed
Plans and implements appropriate instruction for each student; integrates individual student goals/objectives into classroom plans
Employs effective educational instruction and behavior management techniques which foster good self-concept and independence in learning
Serves as a team member in determining and implementing student accommodations, referral, eligibility, placement, and individual education program/development
Maintains and monitors records for each student served by the preschool team
Assesses program needs and makes recommendations for purchases and maintenance
Evaluates program effectiveness and adjusts process and content for optimum student growth
Assists individual students with the use of assistive technology/adaptive devices
Complies with local, state, and federal regulations regarding special education records, reports, and services
Provides information, consultation, and assistance to pre-school service providers and/or regular classroom teachers
Maintains frequent and substantive communication with parents
Uses and maintains confidential information in accordance with state and federal law and local Board policy
Practices safe, responsible, legal, and ethical use of technology following the Hoover City Schools' Acceptable Use Agreement
Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system
Cooperates in all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the local school
Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
