POSITION OVERVIEW
Morehouse Parish School District is seeking an energetic and student-centered Health & Physical Education Teacher to support the physical, mental, and social well-being of students at Bastrop High School, a Title I campus committed to equity and whole-child development. The ideal candidate will deliver standards-aligned health and physical education instruction, promote lifelong wellness, and create a safe and inclusive environment that encourages active participation, teamwork, and personal responsibility.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
Employment Type : Full-Time 9-Month Contract
Salary : In accordance with the MPSD Teacher Pay Scale and applicable state guidelines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver standards-aligned instruction based on Louisiana Student Standards for Health and Physical Education
- Design and implement engaging lessons promoting physical fitness, health literacy, nutrition, and personal wellness
- Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and responsible decision-making
- Teach and reinforce social-emotional competencies, including self-management and goal setting
- Promote safe practices, injury prevention, and proper use of equipment
- Assess student performance using formative and summative measures aligned to standards
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including students with disabilities
- Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment in indoor and outdoor settings
- Integrate technology and fitness tools to enhance instruction
- Collaborate through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, IDEA, Section 504, and district policies
- Engage families and stakeholders in promoting student wellness
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Health and Physical Education or eligibility through an LDOE-approved pathway
- Knowledge of Louisiana Student Standards for H&PE
- Demonstrated skills in classroom management, supervision, and instructional planning
- Knowledge of student safety protocols and wellness practices
- Ability to promote positive behavior and social-emotional development
- Proficiency with instructional technology and student data systems
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Commitment to equity, student well-being, and professional growth
- Candidates enrolled in an approved Teacher Preparation Program must provide proof of enrollment, completed coursework, and official Praxis exam scores (if applicable)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education, or related field
- 1–3 years of teaching experience at the middle or secondary level
- Experience in a Title I school or with diverse learners
- Certification or training in CPR, First Aid, and AED
- Experience promoting fitness programs and extracurricular activities
- Experience supporting inclusive practices for students with disabilities
- Participation in PLCs or collaborative teams
- Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements, as required for student transportation and extracurricular activities, within a district – specified timeframe.
